Last look at NYC's Holiday Windows @Bergdorfs

2021 brought a test of resilience --from welcoming a new president, to shocking supply chain shortages, to availability of COVID vaccinations (and boosters!) and a gradual re-opening of the world. We saw a FRIENDS reunion, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle speak with Oprah, #FREEBRITNEY and more... and we cringe as we revert back to: long lines for COVID testing, people dying and closed borders / stores / schools due to Omnicron. Given the positives, the negatives and the unexpected in-betweens, the last couple years whisper that the wise soak up the present and treat each day like a glorious sunset. The Present Moment windows @Bergdorfs echoes this sentiment, featuring vignettes of audaciously happy moments, frozen in time. A little late to posting, but what better way to ring in the new year, than with sequins, sparkle, style... and a little sass? Cheers to 2022! Classic games and classy clothes combine to form a curated celebration in the windows at Bergdorf Goodman. Festive, game-themed windows set the stage for fantasy, drama and spirited "Good Times." With less than a week to spare, Christmas peeks around the corner. Beyond the praise and presents, don't forget to pass along a healthy helping of holiday cheer. In the mean time, have a look at the windows of Bergdorf Goodman...

Harney & Sons Soho with windows by @polarpolarizer

Offering up one last hurrah for the holidays, the sights and smells of evergreen trails through NYC streets. Polar Buranasatit's 'factory festive' windows for Harney and Sons features a 'controlled chaos' (note the mini wooden people hard at work at the bottom and on the right) personifying the hustle and bustle of the holidays. 2019 is picking up pace; are you ready to rumble?

-WEEKEND WINDOWS-

Tiffany's "Make the world sparkle" 57th St. windows

Over the last week, an old friend and I were debating "choice" and the ability to "Build your own reality." In the battle of principle vs. practice, is there always "choice?" With the Women's March a day in hindsight, the weekend's events showcase the reaction to a nation's choice of president. While the windows at Tiffany's on Fifth Ave. are devoid of pedestrians due to its proximity to Trump Tower, the 57th street view presents a myriad of diamond encrusted delights and chic choices... #SaksHoliday Land of 1,000 delights +Saks Fifth Avenue ; this set by +Proenza Schouler

When things go awry, impulse almost always wins, actively assigning blame or wallowing in ailments. This new year, let hope guide and uplift. The windows of Saks' Land of 1,000 delights fills Fifth Ave. with saccharine sets of candied delights. Sweet replaces sour and notable designers (e.g. Carolina Herrera, Marchesa, Erdem, Jason Wu) showcase "candy couture" dresses patterned after sweet treats or bespoke candy-inspired Spring 2017 creations (e.g. Rosie Assoulin, Naeem Khan, Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Simkhai). Happily hiding from the holidays, Fifth Ave. festivities become an afterthought as warm weather provides a welcome distraction to winter in the US. Taking the time to glimpse at the holiday window spread, before they disappear in the wake of Santa, here is a quick compilation of Barney's #PeaceLoveJoy display and Saks Fifth Avenue's Nutcracker Sweet windows. Part 2 of The Winter Palace #saksholiday windows at Saks Fifth, NY

Celebrate Christmas in NY by way of crowds, children and choruses of chaos (sometimes consisting of carols and comraderie). As suburban resistance resounds, merry melodies compound cautious cheer. Eliminate avarice and emanate generosity this season. Give graciously. Harbor humility. This week, the Fifth Avenue facing facade of Saks continue to inspire elegance. #SaksHoliday Take 2--Keep reading for a continuation of the Winter Palace windows of #SaksFifth...

Bergdorf Goodman, 57th Street windows with Aurora Borealis in the background; This season, feathery ballgowns are en vogue!

NYC's chilly climate and petty precipitation vicariously transports me back to adventures at Laugarvatn Fontana (March, 2012). Immersed in VISKA (a boiling outdoor mineral spring) during a harrowing hailstorm, the simultaneous hot and cold sensations are strikingly surreal. While Aurora Borealis was absent from the atmosphere that day, Iceland and its natural glory made for great memories! This week, Bergdorf's 57th Street windows encapsulate a moment in time--the nostalgia of being in Iceland, the surplus of seasonal sales and frigid, fur-trim weather.  An Enchanted Experience presented by Saks Fifth Avenue, Cinderella arriving at the Saks Fifth Avenuet to try glass slippers

Heroines and adversaries meet in a montage of spirited merriment this holiday season. Aptly entitled An Enchanted Experience, the culmination of 9,000 hours of creative craftsmanship begets a most spectacular display at Saks Fifth Avenue's 49th Street flagship. Merging fairytale maidens and 'Manhattan,' Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White and Little Red Ridinghood delight spectators from near and far. Harney & Sons Teas in Soho, NYC glams up their window with an angelic mannequin

Tea parties are much more enjoyable as an adult. These days, a pot of fragrant jasmine (green tea), a couple friends and a comfortably chic caftan set the stage for a relaxing escape from the daily grind. Over at Harney & Sons, Soho, glitter and glamour pave the way for a celestial tea ceremony in the store window. Visitors who step inside can sample an eclectic variety of traditional and unique teas. Chocolate Mint, Tower of London, African Autumn and White Christmas--the choices are endless (oh--and the scones are to die for!)! Definitely one of my top 5 tea spots in NYC--have you been? Happy Wednesday and keep reading for more Wednesday Windows...

Christmas windows at Macy's Herald Square featuring the story of Virginia O'Hanlon

Cherry cheeks and red velour complement the bearded man who heroically hosts holidays past and present. Slinging a satchel of surprises from rooftop to fireplace, "Santa" represents merriment, cheer and generosity for all ages. This week, Macy's 34th Street windows showcase the story of Virginia O'Hanlon, the 8-year-old who wrote The New York Sun and posed the question of whether Santa Claus exists. The famous response [here], prompted a book, a movie, and remains the most reprinted editorial published in an English language newspaper.  Baz Dazzled; Barney's Holiday Windows by Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin at Barneys, Madison Ave.

With tragic tales transpiring over the last week, Barney's front façade bears a fitting banner, reminding viewers that "A life lived in fear is a life half lived." As unveiled last week, the Great Gatsby's design duo Baz Luhrmann and wife Catherine Martin beautify Barney's New York with energizing extravagance. Add merry melodies and ancillary animation to an arts-inspired theme and marvel with awe at a moving menagerie of metal, sensational sculptures and oversized opulence in the store's windows. A fabulous New Year's feast at Ralph Lauren, West Broadway, NYC

For some, a new year begins another chance… at fat-busting, forgiving faults or finding things forgotten. For me, 2014 presents a renewed sense of "returning to America"--both in a stylish and literal sense. Maybe it's the 9/11 and JFK documentaries that have been showing on TV or the christening of the Freedom Tower or the growing number of veterans returning from tours abroad--an undeniable patriotism is in the air. Walking past the Ralph Lauren windows on West Broadway (Soho, NYC) jaunts a self-disclosed epiphany that the brand represents the epitome of America with its Navajo prints, nautical stripes, neat lines and--needless to say--namesake logo. Ralph is cool, classy, conservative, casual chic, could-be-rugged and universally accepted across culture, class, race and gender. While my closet is completely devoid of RL, I appreciate the token of Americana each of its store windows lends and the grandiose vision of America-the-Beautiful that invites viewers to experience an amplified love of living in our country. God Bless America (and the World) in 2014!

From Breakfast at Tiffany's to Sex and the City, each brings to the table a little piece of what makes New York fabulous.

Yeti Story feature in the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue, 49th St. at 5th Ave.

Reportedly first sighted in the 50's, an amicable white Yeti was long rumored to live in the high haunches of Saks Fifth Avenue. At the hands of Michael Beirut, the rumors took shape in 2011 when Saks commissioned a plush likeness of the famed fantasy. This holiday season, Saks' winter windows narrate a heartwarming tale of strength and snowflakes, featuring Yattoy the Yeti and his friends and family. [More photos after the jump!]
