The laid-back ladies of Alice and Olivia on Greene St., Soho NYC

At 34, I'm easing into the zone of 'middle aged.' College acquaintances have converted into decades-long camaraderie. 'Like' has transitioned into life-long 'love' among friends. Intuition undermines impulse and coffee has risen in the ranks as a beverage of choice. In loaded reflection of 'want' vs. 'reality' as applied to the age-old queries of "when I grow up," I realize I'm still guessing on, grasping at, gaining from and --most of all--grateful for the mundane moments, lessons learned and opportunities still to come. I'm still wanting and growing and 'being'... and very much considering "what I want to be when I grow up..." Happy Wednesday and have a look at this week's windows from Greene St., Soho...

Sand, sun and squeals soon delight those who venture towards adventure. This Wednesday, the Meatpacking district's Anthropologie and Alice & Olivia present a painted, picturesque view of rest and relaxation. What makes the holidays bright for you? Is it the lights or smell of pine? The holiday parties, snow, carols and wine? A slow, fast-forward through snapshots of a year passed, I'm reminded of bold new challenges to come. June starts a month-long celebration of dads and grads. This week's windows honor the graduating class of 2013 and feature the entrants of Saks Fifth Avenue's DDi Student Window Challenge. The winning display by Corey Ring and Kristen Eichenberg of FIT holds 3 mannequins garbed in citrus-toned Alice & Olivia, with their faces shrouded by paper pyramids.

Mulberry on Spring Street in Soho

With rapid advances in technology, emails and text messages have just about replaced manual correspondence. Mulberry's Soho storefront reminds me of postcards from childhood pen-pals and the lengthy wait for letters from friends far and near. Every so often, I send a random package in hopes of brightening a friend's day. Instant is nice, but a tangible token of thought is incomparable!

DVF Store, showroom and studio on Washington St. in the Meatpacking District 

All is quiet in New York City as the holidays breeze by. The quieter-than-normal streetscape reminds me of college--when the majority of campus vacates to respective homes, leaving a handful of stragglers and international students yearning for the possible extended invitation. DVF's window reminds me of the love rekindled during the holidays--between siblings, among families, towards one-another, in remembrance of the past and on behalf of strangers. Blow a kiss, smooch under the mistletoe and kiss 2012 goodbye!
