Human Peacock! Yves Saint Laurent: The Perfection of Style at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA)

At 21, young adults in the US come of legal drinking age; some graduate college and many undertake jobs or travels. For Yves Saint Laurent, 21 is the age he falls heir to Creative Directorship at Christian Dior, jump starting a 44-year endeavor of 'perfecting style.' Saint Laurent's 1982 statement, "I am no longer concerned with sensation and innovation, but with the perfection of my style" inspires Yves Saint Laurent: The Perfection of Style, a retrospective curated by French Historian Florence Müller and Chiyo Ishikawa of the Seattle Art Museum. On the bridge to VA Beach!

Here's a window into my world this Wednesday, as I break from the normal routine. The last 10 days have seen sand, sun and sweets at Virginia Beach. Straying away from the 'strip,'  Sandbridge Beach and Red Wing Park (home to the Stone Bridge and 19 poké stops for Pokémon Go!) are relaxing alternatives. We complete a taste trial of top-your-own treats at Duck Donuts, Krispy Kreme and Amazing Glazed, and tour an active Navy ship--thanks to a coworker. Skate parks and slight sunburn later, we sip our last swig of sweet tea and head back to reality. Keep reading for a look into our week in VA Beach...

Cherry cheeks and red velour complement the bearded man who heroically hosts holidays past and present. Slinging a satchel of surprises from rooftop to fireplace, "Santa" represents merriment, cheer and generosity for all ages. This week, Macy's 34th Street windows showcase the story of Virginia O'Hanlon, the 8-year-old who wrote The New York Sun and posed the question of whether Santa Claus exists.
