Parisian chic layered with backpacks and bungee make Gökotta Mark Gong's S/S 2020 show a NYFW phenomenon. Flanked by a fashion-forward front row, models rock the runway in silk, sheer, sheen, satin, feather and jacquard combinations. The mixed materials and moderately masculine texturing exude a feminine-yet-rugged feel. Monday evening, Pakistani womenswear designer SANIA STUDIO drapes the runway with swaying silks and expertly tailored brocade. Known for innovative prints and artisan crafted fabrics, Sania Maskatiya channels a unique design ethos through an "interplay of colors, depicting imagery inspired by nature and her environment, often juxtaposed with a darker twist" (Sania). With expertly structured pieces and loose-fitting luxury, SANIA STUDIO presents the best of both worlds as one of four designers in the CAAFD's emerging designer showcase. #NYFW 2017 : SHERRI HILL S/S 2018

Sequins and sparkles are in strong supply as Sherri Hill's princess-esque ballgowns cascade the catwalk at Gotham Hall Tuesday. Known as a purveyor of prom and pageant attire, Sherri Hill's strategically stacked sidelines complement the famous faces gracing her runway. Miss USA Kára McCullough, Miss Globe 2016 Corinne Foxx (a.k.a Jamie Foxx's daughter), Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere and child actress Alvia Alyn Lind exude confidence in the gowns they represent on the runway. Proud parents Jamie Foxx and Keenan Ivory Wayans support their daughters from the front row. Other notable names in the audience (many wearing Sherri Hill dresses) include supermodel Nikki Taylor, singer Jordan Jones, Fuller House actress Landry Bender and Kevin Can Wait actress Mary Charles Jones. Inspired by a love of essential oils, Jill Stuart accounts, "clothes are like a favorite song or a favorite perfume." Leaving room for interpretation, her Autumn 2017 collection embodies an essence of complexity through a contradictory discourse of "show" and wearability. Set in the lobby of a former AT&T headquarters in the Financial District, giant marble columns surround models on pedestals. Entitled Lights in the Shadow, Yuna Yang's Fall/Winter 2017 collection draws inspiration from the world's socio-political climate, emblazoned by those who wield the torch of freedom. As "light shines brighter in the darkness," Yang conceptualizes chiaroscuro with a play on fabrics and patterns. Set at NYC's Gotham Comedy Club, the non-traditional runway presentation intertwines models and audience, affecting an emergence from the shadows. Closing off #NYFW Day 2 at The Dock at Moynihan Station, the Central Saint Martens alum returns with muted colors and mainstream motifs. After a passable presentation, the end procession presents a stand-out moment with women wielding illustrated periodicals. The defining moment emphasizes fashion, agnostic of the femme. Redefining industry standards, Carmen Steffens (US), Anna's Loud (Italy), Archana Kochhar (India), Andrea Wild (Germany), Hendrick Vermeulen (South Africa) and Alexandra Frieda (Netherlands) emphasize that beauty is inclusive... of gender, race, physique, age and ability. FASHION WEEKEND #NYFW2015

NYFW HQ at 451 West 14th St

Wrought with wardrobe wonders, this weekend signifies the peak of Fashion Week in NYC. While brands, buyers and media outlets acclimate to core changes (e.g. new management, live streaming technology, limited show access, etc.), select sponsors pop up in venues that welcome both show-goers and the general public. Set in the Meatpacking District, NYFW HQ launches a lounge and event space serving sips, hosting event series and housing art installations. Across the street, Chanel debuts its Boyfriend watch via white-walled exhibit. Other NYFW pop-ups this weekend include 29 Rooms, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Refinery 29, and Tumblr's pop-up at Lightbox.
