 Getting crafty in the windows of Moschino, Soho

Donuts dressed in pinked sprinkle paired with coffee, cocoa or a cappuccino could describe breakfast, lunch or or a midday snack. Though my palate has gravitated towards "fresh" and "healthy" lately, science says that snacks possess the power of granting happiness. Hooray for trail mix, fruit and the occasional sack of salty goodness. What's your go-to for a midday snack? This week, don't forget to take a break and grab a bite of something sensational. "Rom-Coms" (Romantic Comedies) typically follow a formula where a couple falls in love, a dramatic plot ensues (complete with conflict, miscommunication and/or unsavory characters) and a timely resolution results in a happily ever after. Add in a cultural component and comedic banter either cajoles or confuses the crowd. When Crazy Rich Asians released, there was a fleeting fear of overdone ethnocentricity and overly Chinese "cheese" factor. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad. In fact--as far as rom-coms go--it even passes as above standard; Hats off to the first Hollywood production with an all-Asian cast since Joy Luck Club (20+ years ago!). This week's windows at Moschino seemed fitting. Relationships are tough! Despite the labels, the judgement, the trials, there's always a final resolution... and an appropriating happiness...

Happy Birthday, USA. Another year, another president, another archive of memories made. With symbolic vigilance, Americans align around women, LGBT equality, refugees, and immigrants. Solidarity sings a shared song of acceptance and 'freedom.' This week's windows at Moschino showcase the Moschino + Transformers capsule collection; to me, it's  representative of modern-day Americana--the drama, the plot, (the product placement!), love + loss + lies... man vs. machine... and the entertainment industry--all in one franchise. Allay (def.relieve, alleviate, diminsh pain or hunger) is the word of the week this week (definitions and sentences are currency for the kids to earn cash and other "prizes"). With a broken finger and a broken ankle (one on each child) at the homestead, it seems fitting. The main room of Byronesque Offline featuring Vivienne Westwood, Jean-Paul Gaultier, John Galliano and more

Nestled in a back corner, discreetly represented by a single sign at the end of the dimly lit hallway, vintage punk (style) finds comfort in a thematically fitting space. Two floors above the bustling retail outlet of the James A. Farley Post Office, vintage clothier Byronesque and local brand partners exhibit rare pieces from some of punk fashion's most revered--in the abandoned office area. Aptly titled Offline, Byronesque.com's 3-day long weekend popup doubles as both boutique and display, ushering a curated selection of online offerings into the purview of a purchasing public.

What makes the holidays bright for you? Is it the lights or smell of pine? The holiday parties, snow, carols and wine? A slow, fast-forward through snapshots of a year passed, I'm reminded of bold new challenges to come. For one, I'm thankful for the supporters and readers who make my endeavors worth smiling for. Look where you're headed. Remember where you've been. Valentino Temporary Store on Madison Ave. and 65th St.

Stylish spring colors sprout in store windows with the approach of daylight savings time. As winter's moody monochrome and hardened hues melt away, lace and light pastels give life to flirty florals. While the poignant patterns and bold brights of summer haven't yet emerged, the introduction of cooler colors encourage a timed thaw and an elusive emergence from the great indoors. Valentino's temporary store mannequins sport an uptown look and quickly remind us that seasons--like the store--are just temporary.
