ETSY FOR EVERYONE!

Etsy Holiday Shop at 131 Greene St., open from Thurs. 11/29 to Sat. 12/8

Nestled on Greene St., at the edge of the holiday shopping bustle, the Etsy Holiday pop-up adds a measure of comfort and "home" to the traditional commercialized retail scene. Featuring a specially curated selection of handmade style and goodness, an abundance of unique items are available for pick-and-purchase until December 8. Between friendly staff, well-crafted merchandise and fantastic freebies, Etsy successfully (and generously) imparts a little holiday spirit on everyone who walks in.

Assorted handmade accessories by Etsy vendors

Accessories are a heavy hitter among the assortment of wearables. Necklaces, bracelets and earrings of all sizes and colors are folded into the merry medley of merchandise. Some of the artists/vendors are on hand to personally promote their products. In the middle of the floor, designer Rebecca Thomas of Pumpkin Seed Jewelry sells vintage charms and trinkets that she personalizes for free on-site. Nearby, Mama's Sauce from Florida hand prints embossed holiday tags on a letterpress--free for the taking!

In the back, a packed schedule of free daily activities greets the curious passerby. I happen to catch the 1PM wreath-making class sponsored by Etsy in partnership with Design Sponge. It is the highlight of my day to try my hand at the aromatically festive holiday DIY! Staff are stylish, surprisingly sweet and ready to guide participants through the project. If you're in the market for a special gift and want to support local artisans, stop by for a different kind of retail experience. Take a minute to chat with an artist or consult the squad of Etsy experts. While you're at it, you may learn a crafty thing or two--there are free classes, live music and activities throughout the day--every day until Dec. 8!
