KILLER HEELS: THE ART OF THE HIGH HEELED SHOE @ THE BROOKLYN MUSEUM

Introductory wall welcoming guests into the 'Killer Heels' exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum of Art 

Shoes strike a delicate balance between the creator and consumer, both of whom use the human foot to showcase an outpouring of self expression. Over time, shifts in style and sensitivities account for experiments in height and heel. In a survey spanning 4 centuries of ingenuity, the Brooklyn Museum's curator Lisa Small has assembled an exhibit of over 160 pairs of chausseures alongside objects and paintings that complement or have inspired their construction. From crazy to conservative, Killer Heels, The Art of the High Heeled Shoe documents the evolution of shoes as "fashion's most provocative accessory" [source]. Six specially commissioned short films by artists Ghada Amer, Reza Farkhondeh, Zach Gold, Steven Klein, Nick Knight, Marilyn Minter and Rashaad Newsome complete the showcase. ARTIST BOY KONG MAKES MAGIC IN NYC

Rag & Bone's Houston/Project wall (on the corner of Elizabeth and Houston Streets) is known to host a rotating roster of artistic creativity. From Erik den Breejen's illustrative lyrics to 5Pointz founder Jonathan Cohen's brooding bulbs to Stoke's drummer Fabrizio Moretti's astronaut sculptures, the wall has wowed those who stroll the streets of Nolita with its ever-changing contribution of style and art. This turn, Florida bred Boy Kong replaces Joe Hill's eerie 3D house scape with a boldly colored 1D Two Tongue Tiger illustration. BOK JOY @ THE SECRET ROBOT PROJECT

Shapes, sparkle and spectacular surprises set the stage of Christian Joy's eccentric costumes. As the exclusive designer to Karen O. of the YeahYeahYeahs, Iowa-native Christian Joy found fame through formulating funky fashions for a crowd favorite. Through October 12th, Joy's artwork is on display at the Secret Robot Project gallery in Bushwick, Brooklyn. A spin in a different direction, the installation features textiles and hanging "bop bags" in Joy's signature prints.
