DANIEL SILVERSTAIN @ SHOP STUDIOS

Daniel Silverstain SS2016 at Shop Studios

Fashion week returns with a fresh look and fractured forums. In merging MADE and IMG, NYFW adopts a new logo and two different downtown locales--Skylight Clarkson Square and Moynihan Station. Similarly showcasing its strength for sponsorship, the CDFA unites its body of designers under a blue + orange logo with show spaces scattered throughout NYC. Looking beyond the decentralized model for showcasing style, I find a new designer to watch this season. Keep reading for a look at Daniel Silverstain's Spring/Summer 2016 collection...

Translucent

A precocious palette of muted, metallic and mixed-prints roll down Daniel Silverstain's foil-infused runway. Translucent trousers add a touch of futuristic fantasy when paired with textured tops in tantric tiers. Pushing maximalist and minimalist palettes, malleable monotone and soft silhouettes suggest a smooth entry into spring/summer 2016. The second half of Silverstain's 21-piece collection voices bold colors and visceral elements that exude effortless elegance with expert construction. Jacquard and metallic paired with patterns and sharp lines provide structured solidarity to artfully individualized pieces.

Gridded goddess

Set at Shop studios, show coordinators ensure that the space supports a prevalence of "front row" seating. In a season where press and microbloggers are minimized, it is nice to see industry veterans actively arranging a brand showcase that caters to a broad audience of influencers. A show highlight (other than the S/S silhouettes) are the hair and makeup of Silverstain's models. The cinched up-do with matted bangs and defined eyes remind us that while summer 2015 subsides, there are so many things to look forward to post-Fall.
