Wallpaper Mag + Wallpaper* Handmade exhibit press release
In a marriage of lavish consumerism and industrial ingenuity, Wallpaper* and Jaguar present Wallpaper* Handmade, a pop-up exhibit at 345 Meatpacking. Featuring leading designers in fashion, furniture and architecture, each item exhibited is carefully curated--with all 40+ pieces specially commissioned--by Wallpaper* editors. Between the partially deconstructed Jaguar F-Type, Todd Bracher's cork jacket and Fiona Barratt-Campbell's valet supporting Alexander McQueen oxfords, the menagerie of high time artistry is thematically diverse and unequivocally exclusive. Arriving from Milan's annual Salone del Mobile, Wallpaper* Handmade reaches NYC in time for the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF).

In its fifth year running, Wallpaper* expands its compendium to include 6 new collaborations between British car manufacturer Jaguar and designers Fredrikson Stallard, Moritz Waldemeyer and Mathieu Gustaffson, architects Neri & Hu and Vicenzo De Cortiis and marble specialist Salvatori. Per Wallpaper*'s press release, the pieces "each represent an avant-garde take on Jaguar's contemporary design, creativity and technology."

Entering the grey-toned industrial space, complete with a wide range of posh products and accompanying video/excerpts resemble a room within a contemporary art museum. While many of the inert objects are beyond my shallow sophistication, I appreciate the creative philosophy by which they were conceived. My personal favorites are the portrait of Monsieur Poiré by Ian Wright (crafted from Caran d'Ache pencils) and the glow-in-the dark wallpaper by Haas Brothers and Flavor Paper (Bold pink has found a new a place in my heart--if only I can find a wall to experiment with). If you're wandering around New York's Meatpacking District, Wallpaper* Handmade is on view from 11AM until 7PM Sunday to Wednesday and 11AM until 8PM Thursday through Sunday until May 31st.
