LINKS A LA MODE: WEEK OF 3/14

Days are longer, making way for more time to play! Along with shopping sample sales, gossiping over brunch and driving-distance day trips, stay in tune with culture. Check out the new and ongoing exhibits around NYC including FairyTale Fashion at the FIT Museum, Thom Brown Selects at the Cooper Hewitt and Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History at the Jewish Museum. In between activities, have a look at this week's IFB Top 20...

IFB LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK of 7/24

While furiously foraging the internet for fashion-related weekend activities, I stumble on a few fun facts. A Cornell study shows that temperature seems to have an impact on worker productivity [source] and the Sixth Court of Appeals ruled that accidental butt dialing relinquishes any expectation of privacy [source].In other news, the new "bodega" on Bowery is actually the Sprite Corner, a pop-up sponsored by Sprite. Next week, I'll be dropping by the Making Patterns exhibit at South Street Seaport. Until then, have a peek at this week's IFB Top 20 posts, including my interview with Ukraine designer Yasia Khoemko...

IFB LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK of 2/19

lalam0219
Gong Hay Fat Choy! As part of the 15-day-long Chinese New Year festival, cleaning, shopping and eating take top priority. "New Year, New Clothes" is part of the annual tradition, symbolizing a new start and stimulating the welcome of new experiences. Here's to a second start for 2015! As fashion week ends and a lunar new year begins, have a look at your horoscope and the IFB top 20 this week (including my post on Metal Noir)...

IFB LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK of 2/5

lalam0205

For the longest time, the concept of "writing your own story" seemed vaguely perplexing. Natural progression assumes that education, a career and marriage approaches in due course. Yet at the supposed 'height' of life, what defines success and achievement? Are the expectations of "what I want to be when I grow up" being met? What now? Choice and contentedness define the upcoming chapters. What's next? While you're reflecting, have a look at this week's top 20 IFB blog posts...

IFB LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK of 10/31

lalam1030

Living without regret is the key to limitless freedom. On Friday afternoon, I'm introduced to the story of Brittany Maynard--a young woman with terminal cancer. While the right-to-dignity debate continues, I appreciate Maynard's honesty and ability to embrace life, in the face of death. Is there a juxtaposition of of right and wrong when it comes to death and suffering? Have a look at Brittany's story and this week's IFB Top 20 (including my Q&A with Camille Hardwick!)...

IFB LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK of 10/17

lalam1016

Hay rides and cider have infiltrated weekend activities. Pumpkins and apples fall victim to seasonal pies and picking. What's your favorite fall treat? In between baking, brunching and other fall-themed festivities, take a minute to review this week's IFB Top 20 (including my piece on the Maryland to Murano exhibit at the Museum of Arts and Design)…

IFB LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK of 10/10

lalam1009

Fall is in the air--and so are sneezes and sniffles and sore throats. Feeling a little under the weather? Fight off a case of forlorn feelings with fur-lined fashions or a festive   footwear. Feel better by staying in for a day. Take the time to rest up and read up on this week's IFB Top 20 (including my interview with designer Kirst Ward!)...

IFB LINKS A LA MODE: WEEK of 8/14

lalam0814

Dressing up can drastically debunk a drab day. Pick up a new pattern or put on a vibrant pair of pumps. Toss aside the tiredness and take transformation to a new level. Fashion fuels confidence and fosters positive feelings... What will you be wearing today? While you're thinking about it, have a look at this week's IFB Top 20 posts--including my interview with the fashionable fellas of Costello Tagliapietra….

IFB LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK of 6/19

lalam0619

What a week! In trivial pursuit of progress and predilected prerogative, I find myself regressing into callous contemplation, questioning the loose decisions executed over the past week/month/year. Is today better because of forethought? Will tomorrow remember the sacrifices of yesterday? In lieu of inference, I'll enjoy a relaxing sun-lit "now"; troublesome tomorrow is still a day away. In the meantime, enjoy the weekend and have a look at this week's IFB top 20, including my interview with milliner Jess Collett.

IFB LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK of 5/15

lalam0515

The changing landscape of commerce makes fashion immeasurably accessible 24 hours/ 7 days a week. While my online purchases are very limited, I find it incredibly exciting to browse foreign brands or have technology scour the globe for any item of my choosing. Convenience and access aside, has the globalization of fashion tipped the scales of competitive advantage for emerging designers? Have a look at this week's IFB Top 20, including my interview with the ladies of Beulah!

IFB LINKS A LA MODE: WEEK of 5/1

lalam0501

A long week is ending and a weekend of infinite possibilities is only beginning. With warmer weather and stretched, sunlit days, what's first on the to-do list? Time to trade the steamy sips for iced ones and swap sweaters for swimwear. Derby Day, food festivals, and sidewalk sales abound--what will you be up to this weekend? While you're deciding,  have a look at this week's ifb top 20 reads, including my interview with Designer Ann Yee!

IFB LINKS A LA MODE: WEEK of 4/3

lalam0403

A week ago, NBC Universal announced that today (4/4/14--a bad number in some cultures) DailyCandy will be shuttered. Aside from feeling surprise that a corporate conglomerate would end a site attracting 6 million readers, I'm disappointed that the end has come so quickly and unexpectedly for supporters and staff. After reading this op ed piece by Pavia Rosati, DailyCandy's first editor, I'm convinced that NBCU never recognized Daily Candy for what it was and prevented it from realizing its full potential. It's a pity that passion and hard work can no longer counter the prowess of politics and bureaucracy. In other news, here's this week's IFB Top 20, which includes my interview with Diane Pernet...

LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK of 3/13

lalam0313

I waiver between living in the city and moving somewhere with a bit more sun and greenery. A perpetual battle ensues as I look lovingly at my sweats and sigh heavily as I pull on stockings and top off my suit. Off to work and--in the few moments between my doorway and the 15 minute subway ride--I remind myself of the reality that the grass is always greener on the other side. As I continue to debate my next move, have a look at the top 20 this week, including my interview with Lady Kinvara Balfour...

LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK of 3/6

lalam0306

I can't wait to shed the sleeves and trade all wooly winterwear for soft springy shifts. Starting Sunday, it's time to spring forward and slip more sun into the day. Soon we'll be sporting lighter layers and letting loose our beachside tresses. Have a look at this week's fib Top 20 (including my post!) and get ready to give up an hour of sleep!

LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK of 2/27

lalam0227

This week in fashion included reflections of London, NY and Milan, presentations for Made and Paris Fashion Weeks and the introduction of Sara Jessica Parker's SJP shoe line for Nordstrom. The Olympics ended. Bill Cunningham announced an exhibit at the NY Historical Society and the Oscars are on the horizon this weekend. Kicking and screaming, I've taken a short-lived swim in the infinite pool of social media. Twitter headlines aside, have a look at the IFB Top 20 this week...

lalam0220

LINKS A LA MODE : WEEK OF 12/26

lalam1226

It's the leisurely stretch between Christmas and New Years--a perfect chance to take time off work, catch up on shows/sleep, let loose with some bargain shopping, reflect on 2013 and conjure up New Year's resolutions. Speaking of which, I'm excited to be included in the last IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers) roundup of the year. If you have a minute, cozy up with a cup of cocoa (or whatever strikes your fancy) and have a look at what others are blogging about this week...
