-WEDNESDAY WINDOWS-

Pre-holiday windows at Bergdorfs on Fifth Ave, NYC

Over lattes and laments, an epiphany of sorts. "Success" has long been a definitive black or white, with grey branded the disgraced 'in between.' Yet, as age amasses, maturity amounts to an acceptable medium--graceful acceptance of criticism prevails over perpetual "right"-ness and rapid recovery triumphs over perceived failure. Context crushes assumption, absolving insecurity. Keep reading for this week's windows at Bergdorf Goodman and reflect on the figurative seats on which we sit...

 Moschino + Transformers capsule collection

Happy Birthday, USA. Another year, another president, another archive of memories made. With symbolic vigilance, Americans align around women, LGBT equality, refugees, and immigrants. Solidarity sings a shared song of acceptance and 'freedom.' This week's windows at Moschino showcase the Moschino + Transformers capsule collection; to me, it's  representative of modern-day Americana--the drama, the plot, (the product placement!), love + loss + lies... man vs. machine... and the entertainment industry--all in one franchise. BRAND LOYALTY; I'M LOVIN' IT @ GALLERY NINE 5

Designer Drugs Series (Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent) by Desire Obtain Cherish; UV cast in resin [photo source]

It's remarkable how an arrangement of letters can inspire a cult following among clothing connoisseurs. Interlocking C's, G's and LV's (among others) have achieved typographic supremacy--instantly recognizable and gallantly projecting exclusivity, luxury and quality. Whether or not to succumb to brand loyalty rests in one's subjective appreciation of its product in light of competitors, culture and conversation. In a local exhibition entitled Brand Loyalty, i'm loving it, gallery nine5 presents "the pervasive nature of logos and brands as they appear literally, humourously and somberly in everything from sculpture to canvas" [source: gallery press kit].  Keep reading to see select works...

PERSONAL UNiVERSEs, a Fashion Week art "intervention" for Bergdorf Goodman by Eva Petric in the 5th Ave. windows

Once stored in solitude, bits of vintage lace sprout surreptitiously in Bergdorf Goodman's 5th Avenue windows this week. A specially commissioned Fashion Week installation, Personal Universes is an "art intervention" by Eva Petric, and a progression of the artist's Hematoma series. Playing off the idea of clothing as second skin, old, given and purchased lace is conjoined in interconnected webs and serves as the backdrop for a selection of styles from distinct designer's Spring collections. The installation will be on view until March 8th; keep reading to see the different displays ...

 Chanel, Spring Street Soho

Third quarter earnings have been released, but the 1.8 million making news for Chanel has little to do with balance sheets. In fact, the sizable flock of followers attributed to Chanel's Instagram debut Monday proves the popularity of the brand's "cool girl" style. This week, midriff-bearing, tweed jacket wearing mannequins show that comfort comes in choice colors. Keep reading for a look at this season's sporty-chic styles and Chanel's signature tweed wrapped sneakers...
