Nestled in a back corner, discreetly represented by a single sign at the end of the dimly lit hallway, vintage punk (style) finds comfort in a thematically fitting space. Two floors above the bustling retail outlet of the James A. Farley Post Office, vintage clothier Byronesque and local brand partners exhibit rare pieces from some of punk fashion's most revered--in the abandoned office area. Aptly titled Offline, Byronesque.com's 3-day long weekend popup doubles as both boutique and display, ushering a curated selection of online offerings into the purview of a purchasing public.

My Desk...My Phone…My Luck has Turned!

A 2-minute email break between back-to-back meetings Thursday yielded an unusually unique opportunity. I was invited back to the Brooklyn Museum for a second time in 2 months--to see Nana, to experience Gaultier and to (potentially) meet a high profile Mystery Guest! A judgement call was at hand; should I muster up the courage to ask my boss about leaving work or miss an unconfirmed meeting with an unnamed fashion industry celeb? It was a toss up, and chance won out.

Hey! That mannequin just blinked at me. 

Actually, I meant that person. 

Wait, is that a hologram? 

No! The gown is on a tangible body... but, How...?! 

A crew of male sailors wearing striped dresses and spouting nonsense, a Victorian-style dress with a flattened leopard sewn straight down the middle, Madonna's iconic cone-bra costumes and an assortment of cage attire is just the start of a sensational lineup at the Brooklyn Museum's The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk. The dynamic exhibit--curated by Thierry-Maxime Loriot and organized by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts--centers around the accomplishments of Jean Paul Gaultier and fuses traditional photography, garments and sketches with futuristic technology by JoliCoeur International. 

The mannequin does blink...and another one sings...and a couple others speak French…
