Podiatry and patents form the foundation of Salvatore Ferragamo's stylishly successful shoe empire. With an eye on anatomy and movement, Ferragamo incorporated balance between mobility and comfort for maximum support in the shoes he created. In an exhibit curated by Stefania Ricci and Sergio Risaliti (in collaboration with Emanuele Enria), the Museo Ferragamo in Florence presents Equilibrium, an exhibit emphasizing the technical prowess of Ferragamo's research and its ties between art, architecture, archeology, science and style. FOREVER NOW @ GUCCI MUSEO, FLORENCE, ITALY

Visit to the Gucci Museo in Florence, Italy 

Once upon a rags-to-riches experience, Guccio Gucci built a leatherworking business and transformed it into an empire with paramount recognition and multi-million dollar earnings. A trademark of Italian luxury, Gucci and its interlocking G's--the initials of its founder--reached a milestone anniversary in 2011. To commemorate 90 years of Italian pride, the Gucci Museo was established in Piazza Della Signora in Florence, both as a tribute to Gucci and as a means of interacting with the public. Emphasizing Gucci's philosophy of "Forever Now," the exhibit space articulates the history and evolution of the Gucci brand and its forté of "re-interpreting the creativity of the past as inspiration for future enterprise" [source: Museum brochure]. Though my closet does not contain Gucci, visiting the museum was a definite highlight of my trip to Italy (second, behind gelato and other consumables). THE VISIONARY WORLD OF VOGUE ITALIA EXHIBIT

Celebrating 50 years of Italian Vogue, Peroni and Vogue present: The Visionary World of Vogue Italia

As Milan Fashion week drew to a close September 22nd, Vogue Italia extended a fashionable farewell by fêting its 50 year anniversary with star-studded fanfare. Continuing the celebration overseas, Peroni Nastro Azzurro co-sponsors The Visionary World of Vogue Italia, an exhibit documenting the impact of Vogue as a leading voice in Italian style. Carefully curated by Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani, the weeklong exhibit features 30 behind-the-scenes videos of influential icons. With few days remaining, stop by Industria Superstudio in the Meatpacking to hear Olivia Palermo explain her secret to style and Christian Louboutin speak about the sensuality of his shoes. Watch brief films of A$AP Rocky, Dita Von Teese, Oliver Stone, Poppy Delevingne, Baz Luhrmann and more from Vogue's video archive. The exhibit will run until October 22nd at 356 West 12th Street.
