In time for the US Open and NY Fashion Week, Snoopy is having a major fashion moment. Move over, fashion insiders--Snoopy in Style NYC has landed in Manhattan's Meatpacking District, bringing together fashion, sports, music and more than 75 years of Peanuts history. The free exhibit, curated by the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center, transforms 16,000 square feet into 10 immersive spaces celebrating the surprisingly stylish world of Snoopy and friends. The star attraction? Snoopy and Woodstock dressed in custom looks by a who’s-who of contemporary designers and brands including Lacoste, BODE, Paul Smith, Sacai, Gucci, Tory Burch, Levi’s and more. With Gloria Steinem's passing on opening day, the center-stage looks from the Gloria Steinem Foundation were coincidentally relevant. Other timely standouts were the Knicks championship jacket by Jeff Hamilton and the artistic looks by Robert Wun. Apparently, even a beagle needs a Fashion Week wardrobe!

Beyond "fashion," the exhibit explores how Charles M. Schulz used clothing to give his characters personality—from Charlie Brown’s instantly recognizable zigzag shirt to Lucy and Sally’s evolving wardrobes. There’s also a look back at Schulz’s longstanding connection to fashion, including earlier designer collaborations dating back to the 1980s. To my surprise, I learned that Charlie Brown wore a white tee in his 1950s debut!

With the US Open underway, tennis gets its own moment. The show highlights Schulz’s love of the sport, his friendship with tennis legend Billie Jean King, and his support for women’s athletics and Title IX. In the back, three 'tiny print' machines vend joy for collectors in the form of "fashion," "tennis," or "miscellaneous. Additionally, edible and fashionable Snoopy branded merchandise is available for purchase. Overall, Snoopy in Style is an exhibit you can linger in. Plenty of seating and the sprawling space makes it easy to slow down, take it all in, and enjoy Snoopy’s world at your own pace. In a city that rarely stands still, that might be the most stylish part of all.
